Cradle Might Rock occurs as 1999 movie written and directed by Tim Robbins. Placed within 1937, it is the somewhat fictionalized account of the genesis & number one performance of Marc Blitzstein's musical The Cradle Will Rock, which was directed by Orson Welles.

Cradle May Rock is Tim Robbins' third film when director. Back inside 1992, Robbins directed his first picture, Bob Roberts, and acted around Robert Altman's The Player. Altman saw Bob Roberts & dubbed Robbins "the next Orson Welles". His 2nd film, a award-winning Dead Man Walking (1995) survived with its non-happy ending intact, unlike Welles' 2nd film The Magnificent Ambersons (1942) which was taken out of his mitts & re-cut.

To a higher degree that, Cradle May Rock was intended to become Welles' previous film when director. It went into pre-production inside 1983 (with Rupert Everett on board to play Welles) before a angel pulled out & a production collapsed.

Cradle May Rock follows the myriad of characters, entirely attached inside variable degrees to Welles' production of the play. Good prior to a play opens, cutbacks in the Federal Theater Project force it to shut down. Welles (Angus Macfadyen) and his producer John Houseman (Cary Elwes) move the play to a second theater. A cast, forbidden by their uniin to last on stage, performs a indicate from either a audience.
